The current Professor Garfield Team includes individuals from diverse academic backgrounds. Together, the team works collaboratively to research and develop resources for K-5 educators to effectively teach a wide range of digital literacy concepts and technologies.

Faculty Advisors

Dr. Jennifer Palilonis—a George and Francis Ball Distinguished Professor of Multimedia and Director of the Center for Emerging Media Design and Development at Ball State University—specializes in design thinking, human-computer interaction, transmedia storytelling, interaction design, and e-learning.

Dr. Kate Shively— an assistant Professor of Elementary Education in the Teacher’s College at Ball State University—is an expert on maker spaces, applying creativity to teaching and learning environments, and digital literacy.

The Emerging Media Design & Development (EMDD) Student Team

Savannah Dill has a Bachelor’s of General Studies degree focused on Science and Mathematics from Indiana University South Bend and is currently in her second-year as an EMDD graduate student at Ball State University. She specializes in graphic design and user experience design and research.

Pat Ormsby graduated from Cazenovia College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications. He is currently in his second-year as an EMDD graduate student at Ball State University and works as a graphic designer at a nonprofit north of Washington, D.C. Pat also specializes in gamification and interaction design.

Eileen Porzuczek graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English with concentrations in creative writing, professional writing, and digital media from Ball State University and is currently finishing her master’s degree in EMDD at Ball State University. She is a content creator with experience in writing, editing, public relations/marketing, publishing, teaching, customer relationship management, and design.

The Graduate Assistants

Chase Keller is a second-year EMDD graduate student at Ball State University. He specializes in graphic design and  user experience design and research.

Angelos Mandilaris graduated from Barton College with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and is currently a graduate student in the Information and Communication Sciences program at Ball State University. He is a content creator with interests in research and development.

The project team also collaborates with Ball State University Undergraduate Marketing, Public Relations, and Elementary Education students.
